Nicki Minaj announced she’s pulling out of Saudi Arabia concert to support LGBTQ

Last week Nicki Minaj made headlines after being announced as the headliner of Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah World Fest. It was a big deal for her to perform in such an ultraconservative kingdom who was coming off of decades of restrictions on entertainment.

But as much as she was praised for performing and helping the progression of the nation, there were also human rights activists who begged Nicki to reconsider given the country’s history of human rights violations and it sounds like Nicki listened.

Today she announced that she’s pulling out of the concert because she wants to show support for women’s rights, gay rights and freedom of expression, according to @ap.

“After careful reflection I have decided to no longer move forward with my scheduled concert at Jeddah World Fest. While I want nothing more than to bring my show to fans in Saudi Arabia, after better educating myself on the issues, I believe it is important for me to make clear my support for the rights of women, the LGBTQ community and freedom of expression,” Nicki said!
