Rector tasks ASUP-BD, SSANIP, NASU others on peace

The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Bida, Niger State, Dr. Abubakar Abdul Dzukogi has appealed to all stakeholders to work towards lasting peace in the institution.

He made the call while receiving workers who were on a 'Solidarity Thank you Visit' to him over what they described as "the gigantic transformation" of the polytechnic by his administration.

Dzukogi, who spoke in company of other principal officers, was marking his first day in the newly built Administrative Block of the institution where he called on all staff to embrace peace in their activities.

"The price for peace is enormous and we hereby call on all stakeholders, including ASUP-BD, SSANIP and NASU to join this administration's development drive to improve academic standard, provide relevant infrastructure, and promote research and community development for the benefit of all people. Without peace, no meaningful development can take place and this is why we are calling on all stakeholders to put the past behind us and work for the greater good of this institution and our nation," the Rector stated.

Speaker after speaker at the occasion commended the Rector's infrastructural initiatives, including the building of a new Administrative Block which, according to them, was a dream come true after fruitless efforts by preceding administrations to erect the structure without success.

Registrar of the institution, Alhaji Baba Ndana, Deputy Rector, Administration, Dr. Sani Manyahaya and Deputy Rector, Academic, Chief Maurison Nwanewezi respectively thanked the polytechnic workers for their support. They commended the Rector for his leadership and administrative skill which, they said, had always placed merit above any primordial considerations in appointing people into positions. While Dr. Sani commended the Rector for achieving a lot within five years spent thus far, his counterpart, Chief Nwanewezi described the Rector as a detribalised Nigerian "who is only interested in people that work hard to make the system much more better."

Chairman, Bida Local Government Area, Mallam Suleiman Sheshi, who was a staff of the institution before joining partisan politics, was at the occasion and called for adequate support from all stakeholders for development to take better shape. He said "my appeal to you is to give our Rector adequate support so that he can perform better."

Leader of the recently recruited staff, Comrade Ahmed Shehu congratulated the Rector on the recent approval by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu for completion of his second tenure of four years until May 21st, 2023. Ahmed further said: "Definitely, your achievements are quite clear to all to see and we sincerely commend your efforts at promoting staff and students' welfare, staff training and retraining, academic research and community development, excellent Corporate Social Responsibility and introduction of new academic programs to mention but a few."

Others who spoke at the occasion canvassed the need for those opposed to Rector's second and final term in office to close ranks and support him for fast and better development strides to take place.

The Rector thanked the polytechnic staff and others for the good wishes and support they have always given his administration.
